Complaints about using Digital Cameras

This week I wanted to provide a resource about complaints about digital cameras. Digital cameras are great to have in the classroom and the library but as with all technology there can be a down side. I thought this was an interesting article about what people do not like about digital cameras and why.

Janine,

I'm not sure of your rationale for posting this article but I will try to respond to it as best I can.

This article indicates how important it is to be aware of the capabilities and limitations of the digital camera you may wish to purchase. How it will be utilized is also a matter to be considered.

From experience, however, I know that most digital cameras allow for adjustments which can improve the quality of the photos before they are taken. Also, software which can improve the quality of pictures (removing red-eye, adjusting brightness, adjusting the contrast, etc.) is also included.

Picasa, a free downloadable software, can also fix many problems that may occur when taking digital photos.

Despite the report, I think the benefits of using digital cameras in the educational setting and/or school media center outweigh any disadvantages discussed in the article regarding this technology. Perhaps next week you can post a link to a web site that demonstrates how this technology is being applied in some educational institutions.

Hello Janine,

I a serious researcher.
I research all products before purchasing them ever since my daughter was born. I want to know about the call backs and the inferior products and thats one of the reasons why I am serious about researching. The other reason is I have found the cost of most of these products are steep.
I want to try to get something that will last and is superior or have a rate of 4 out of 5.
Due to teachers limited resources and budgets it is important to make sure anything purchased for the classroom is durable. Although, there is alot of negative comments about the digital camera I still feel, teachers can benefit from the tool.
I love the consumer guide I use it regularily.

Janine,
All technolgy comes with pros and cons; in fact all things in life do. Many of us have digital cameras and are aware of these problems in some degree. However, those problems do not take away from the ease-of-use and variety of use of digital cameras in the educational setting.

I still like them and will continue to use them in my library. I look forward to getting some ideas from your articles on using them in the educational environment.
